Active vermifuge against roundworms and flatworms, acts in a single dose.
Prevention of heartworm disease.
Small sized tablet.
Product equivalent to Milbemax, , Milbactor, , Milprazikan and Milprazin.
Indications:
In dogs (small dogs and puppies, from 0.5 to 10 kilograms):
Treatment of mixed infestations by adult cestodes (flatworms) and nematodes (roundworms) of the following species:
Tapeworms:
Dipylidium caninum
Taenia spp.
Echinococcus spp.
Mesocestoides spp.
Nematodes:
Ancylostoma caninum,
Toxocara canis,
Trichuris vulpis,
Thelazia callipaeda (see specific treatment programs under “Polysaccharides and route of administration”),
Crenosoma vulpis (Reduction of the degree of infestation),
Angiostrongylus vasorum (Reduction of the degree of infestation by immature adult (L5) and adult stage parasites); see specific treatments and disease prevention programmes under “Dosage and route of administration”).
Prevention of heartworm disease.
Directions for use:
Oral route.
Minimum recommended dose: 0.5 milligrams of milbemycin oxime and 5 milligrams of praziquantel per kilogram of body weight, administered as a single oral dose.
The product should be administered during or after meals.
The tablets are meat flavored and are easy to administer (dogs and puppies usually agree to take them voluntarily, even without food).
The tablets can be split into 2 halves.
Depending on the dog's weight, the dose to administer is as follows:
Weight Tablets
0.5 to 1 kilogram = 1/2 tablet
1 to 5 kilograms = 1 tablet
5 to 10 kilograms = 2 tablets
In cases where prevention of dirofilariasis is useful and at the same time treatment against cestodes is necessary, the product can replace a monovalent product intended for the prevention of dirofilariasis.
For the treatment of Angiostrongylus vasorum infestations, administer milbemycin oxime 4 times at weekly intervals. When concomitant treatment against cestodes is indicated, it is recommended to administer the product once and then continue treatment for the remaining three weeks with a monovalent product containing milbemycin oxime.
In endemic areas, if concomitant treatment against cestodes is indicated, administration of the product every 4 weeks helps prevent angiostrongylosis by reducing the parasite load in immature adults (L5) and adults.
For the treatment of Thelazia callipaeda infestations, milbemycin oxime should be administered in two separate 7-day courses. If concomitant treatment against cestodes is indicated, the drug may replace the monovalent product containing milbemycin oxime alone.
Properties :
Milbemycin oxime belongs to the group of macrocyclic lactones, produced by the fermentation of Streptomyces hygroscopicus var. aureolacrimosus. It is active against mites, larval and adult stages of nematodes and against larvae of Dirofilaria immitis.
The activity of milbemycin is related to its action on neurotransmission in invertebrates: milbemycin oxime, like avermectins and other milbemycins, increases membrane permeability to chloride ions via glutamate-gated chloride channels (related to GABAA and glycine receptors in vertebrates) in nematodes and insects. This leads to hyperpolarization of the neuromuscular membrane and flaccid paralysis and death of the parasite.
Praziquantel is an acetylated derivative of pyrazinoisoquinoline. Praziquantel is active against cestodes and trematodes. It alters the membrane permeability to calcium (Ca2+ influx) in the parasite, which causes an imbalance of membrane structures and leads to membrane depolarization, almost instantaneous muscle contractions (cramps) and rapid vacuolation of the integumentary syncytium, responsible for the decomposition of the integument (blisters). This facilitates elimination in the gastrointestinal tract or leads to the death of the parasite.
Composition :
One film-coated tablet contains:
Active substance(s):
Milbemycin oxime ………………………………………………2.5 milligrams
Praziquantel …………………………………………………………25.0 milligrams
Contraindications:
Do not use in puppies less than 2 weeks old and/or weighing less than 0.5 kilograms.
Do not use in case of hypersensitivity to the active substance(s) or to any of the excipients.
Side Effects:
In very rare cases, systemic (such as lethargy), neurological (such as muscle tremors and ataxia) and/or gastrointestinal (such as vomiting, diarrhoea, anorexia and salivation) symptoms may be observed after administration of the veterinary medicinal product.
Special Warnings:
*Specific warnings for each target species:
It is recommended to seek professional advice for the establishment of an effective worm control program, which takes into account the epidemiological context and the dog's living conditions.
Parasite resistance to a particular class of anthelmintic may develop following frequent and repeated use of an anthelmintic of that class.
* Special precautions for use in animals:
Studies with milbemycin oxime indicate that the safety margin in some Collies and related dog breeds is lower than in other breeds. In these dogs, the recommended dosage should be strictly adhered to.
The tolerance of the product in young puppies of these breeds has not been studied.
Clinical signs in Collies are similar to those seen in dogs of other breeds subjected to overdose.
In accordance with good veterinary practice, animals must be weighed to ensure accurate dosing.
Treatment of dogs with high numbers of circulating microfilariae may occasionally result in hypersensitivity reactions such as pale mucous membranes, vomiting, tremors, labored breathing or excessive salivation. These reactions are associated with the release of proteins from dead or dying microfilariae and do not constitute a direct toxic effect of the product. Use of the product in dogs with microfilaraemia is therefore not recommended.
In areas affected by dirofilariasis or when it is known that a dog has visited or is due to visit a risk area, a veterinary examination is recommended before using the product, to exclude the presence of any concomitant infestation with Dirofilaria immitis. In case of a positive diagnosis, adulticide therapy is indicated before administration of the product.
Echinococcosis is dangerous for humans. In case of echinococcosis, specific protocols for treatment, monitoring and protection of people must be followed. It is then advisable to consult an expert or a parasitology center. If the dog has been in an area where Echinococcus spp is widespread, consult a veterinarian.
No studies have been conducted in dogs with severe debilitated conditions or significant renal or hepatic impairment. The product is not recommended in these cases or only after a benefit/risk assessment by the veterinarian.
In dogs less than 4 weeks of age, tapeworm infestations are rare. Treatment of animals less than 4 weeks of age with a combination product may not be necessary.
* Special precautions to be taken by the person administering the veterinary medicinal product to animals:
Wash hands after use. If tablets are accidentally swallowed, especially by children, seek medical advice immediately and show the patient the carton or leaflet.
* Use during pregnancy, lactation or laying:
In one study, this combination of active substances was shown to be well tolerated in breeding bitches, including during pregnancy and lactation. Since no specific studies have been conducted with this product, use of the product during pregnancy or lactation should be subject to a benefit/risk assessment by the veterinarian.
* Overdose:
In case of overdose, no symptoms other than those observed at the recommended dose have been observed.
Our advice:
Puppy and kitten deworming schedule:
up to 2 months: 2 times a month
2 to 6 months: once a month
From 6 months: 2 times a year for indoor animals, 4 times a year for those with access to the outdoors and 6 times a year for animals in echinococcosis areas.
Protecting your animal also means protecting your environment, but also your family and especially your children.
Remember to deworm a few days before any vaccination. Intestinal worms disrupt the immune system and alter the effectiveness of the vaccine.
After deworming, your pet may experience digestive upset. This is often a sign that your pet was infested and is in the process of to eliminate worms.
We may recommend that you use an anti-emetic before administering the dewormer.
