THE SUN AND THE SKIN
The Sun is the central star of our planetary system. It is a gigantic ball of gas that, as it burns, emits radiation of different wavelengths. Ultimately, only a portion of the solar radiation reaches the Earth's surface.
This is composed of: 56% infrared rays: they generate heat. 39% visible rays: they give us luminosity. 5% ultraviolet (UV): they are responsible for many skin reactions. They are composed of 95% UVA rays, which accelerate skin aging, and 5% UVB rays, which cause sunburn. UVB rays are responsible for tanning and vitamin D synthesis, but also sunburn and skin cancer. UVA rays penetrate deeper into the skin. Under their action, the skin loses its elasticity and wrinkles develop. UVA rays accelerate the formation of age spots and are responsible for sun allergies. They are also the cause of skin cancer.
What is a sun protection factor?
The SPF (Sun Protection Factor) or SPF (Sun Protection Factor) has the same meaning. It serves as a guide to define the level of protection against UVB rays offered by a sunscreen.
The highest SPF that can be labeled is 50+: very high protection. What is the purpose of UVA labeling?
