What is dry skin?

The skin is protected on the surface by a "hydrolipidic" film consisting of sebum and sweat, preventing water from evaporating.The skin of the hands and feet is fragile, little vascularized and poor in sebum.

The skin of the hands, thinner, does not have many sebaceous glands that make this film.When the skin of the hands is too dry, it becomes fragile.

The skin of the feet, like hands, can suffer many attacks; therefore, the hydrolipidic film offers insufficient resistance: dehydration accelerates, resulting in the drying and loss of the suppleness of the skin.

The skin of the hands and feet must be nourished, revitalized to avoid the appearance of crevasses.

What is a crevasse, crack, chew?

Skin defense mechanisms result in inflammation, drying and thickening of the skin (hyperkeratosis) resulting in a rupture of the surface of the skin (appearing crevices, more or less deep cracks).

Crevasse is often the ultimate term of unfighted skin dryness.

The gutter is a small crevasse about the epidermis and part of the dermis that is observed mainly in the hands, lips, nipples.

What are the causes, risk factors?

Temperature changes, mainly cold.Skin friction and trauma (manual, sport...)Irritating factors, dry skin, thickened skins or having lost their flexibility.
