Contusion: A bruise caused by a blow without tearing the skin or breaking the bones. A contusion can vary in severity and be accompanied by hematomas and internal injuries. On the body, a contusion is a bruise, a bleeding effusion in the thickness of the skin.

Bruise: A superficial effusion of blood depositing under the skin and forming a visible spot. A bruise, more commonly called a "blue," is almost always caused by trauma. A bruise results in the appearance of a relatively large red, blue, or black spot that does not fade with pressure. The color then changes to green and then yellow before disappearing within a few days. Bruise: A small local subcutaneous hemorrhage occurring after trauma. Most are not serious. A blue spot appears, then green, then yellow, until it disappears.

Hematoma: A collection of blood in an organ or tissue following a hemorrhage. A hematoma, like a bruise, is almost always caused by trauma. However, it can occur after a very mild shock or spontaneously in the event of an overdose of anticoagulant medication. In the majority of cases, the hematoma regresses spontaneously.
