Brown stains

What is a brown spot (solar lens)?

Brown spots (solar lens) are areas of hyperpigmentation that form spots of light brown to dark brown colour, visible on the surface of the skin. The observed hyperpigmentation is often the result of melanin accumulation, the pigment made by melanocytes to protect the skin from the effects of the sun.

This accumulation in excess of melanin has several origins. It can be due to age: brown spots can appear from 30 years and most often from 45 years. Also, prolonged exposure to the sun, hormonal changes or genetic predisposition are the most commonly mentioned avenues.Brown spots (solar lens) can appear several years after sun overexposure.
