CARIES The most common condition in the world after the common cold, dental caries is damage to the teeth. It is due to the attack of acids from the degradation of sugars by bacteria present in the mouth and dental plaque. These acids destroy the enamel and then the dentin before reaching the nerve of the tooth. The decay is irreversible.

GINGIVITIS AND PERIODONTITIS Gingivitis is an inflammation of the gums due to an accumulation of tartar at the neck of the tooth. If this deposit, containing bacteria, reaches the supporting tissues of the tooth (under the gumline), we speak of periodontitis. It can cause loosening of the tooth. Regular descaling helps to avoid these pathologies.

BAD BREATH This very common phenomenon is most often due to poor oral hygiene (decay, gum problem, tartar, etc.). Indeed, the bacteria feed on food residues and produce sulfur compounds responsible for bad breath. Stress, diet and tobacco are also causes.

PREVENTION AND ADVICE

- Good oral hygiene begins with brushing your teeth, 2 to 3 times a day, after each meal. It is also necessary to brush the tongue to eliminate bacteria and freshen the breath.

- Preferred water to sugary drinks, and accustomed children from an early age,

- Brush your teeth 2-3 times a day, for 3 minutes, and give this habit to children (from 2 years old),

- Use dental products whose fluoride dosage is adapted to the age of the person,

- Choose your toothbrush according to the sensitivity of the gums (prefer a soft brush if you have gum problems; in any case, avoid hard brushes), and change it every 3 months,

- Consult a dentist once a year, and have regular scaling. Don't wait until it hurts.
