The tradition of licorice processing continues in Atri, in Abruzzo, where, since the Middle Ages, Dominican friars extracted the juice from the roots of the region's wild plants. The industrial processing of this precious plant and its derivatives began in 1836. Production has continued uninterrupted ever since. Today, the company is run by the third generation of the Menozzi family, who owned the De Rosa brand in 1950.
